PolicyLink Awards Grant to Support the Race & Equity in all Planning Coalition

PRESS RELEASE for Tuesday, April 16, 2024

San Francisco – We are thrilled to announce that the national research and action institute, PolicyLink, is awarding a grant to support the citywide housing justice coalition, Race & Equity in all Planning Coalition of San Francisco (REP-SF). Policylink’s subgrant of $15,000 will be to support REP-SF’s work to Affirmatively Further Fair Housing (AFFH) in San Francisco.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support Race & Equity in all Planning Coalition to realize California – and the nation's – mandate to Affirmatively Further Fair Housing. The work that REP-SF is doing to bring forward community-informed planning goals rooted in the vision and values of local residents, especially those who face increasing displacement, is transformative. We are confident that REP-SF and the Citywide People’s Plan sets a new national standard for localities who aim to institutionalize frameworks of reparative spatial justice into their planning processes and policies,” says Jasmine Rangel, Senior Associate at PolicyLink. PolicyLink has a mission to advance racial and economic equity by “Lifting Up What Works.”

“We appreciate PolicyLink’s grant to support our work to Affirmatively Further Fair Housing in California. We’re excited that REP-SF’s work is being recognized on a national level. This affirms that our grassroots communities have the real solutions to affordability, equity, and our most pressing housing needs,” says Jeantelle Laberinto of the Race & Equity in all Planning Coalition (REP-SF).

Housing policies are required to Affirmatively Further Fair Housing (AFFH), a federal and state-level requirement stemming from the Fair Housing Act of 1968. In California, the goal of AFFH is to combat housing discrimination, eliminate racial bias, undo historic patterns of segregation, and lift barriers that restrict access in order to foster inclusive communities and achieve racial equity, fair housing choice, and opportunity for all Californians.
